Information Provided By John Little

John Little is a friend of Kathy Edwards. They were talking and she mentioned Stan's book.

He emailed
"My Father flew the same type of aircraft in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific."
"Kathy told me about the website and that is where I got the info on his plane. My Father went from bi-planes to jets in the Marine Corps but by far his favorite plane was the R4D (C-47). He made a record setting flight in BuNo 01977 from San Diego to Ewa, Hawaii in 1942. It took 15.9 hrs non-stop. We found that plane still registered and went to see it. It is owned by Coca-Cola and stored for nostalgia. It was their first corporate plane."

He was able to pull up more information (shown below) on Stan's plane and other C-47s.
Thank you, John!!!

For each C-47, it shows the Squadron #, Chalk #, pilot's name on D-Day, and in most cases the C-47's history before and after D-Day. Troop Carrier Squadrons 14 (Stan's) and 15 were both in the 61st Troop Carrier Group.

The "Chalk #" was chalked onto the side of each plane right before the mission, so the paratroopers would get on the correct plane. It also indicates their position in the flight formation - see Formation Diagram.
"MSN" is "Manufacturer's Serial Number" and "MACR" is "Missing Air Crew Report".
